ABOUT US

WHAT WE BELIEVE:

Cornerstone Baptist Church affirms the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.

HOW WE ARE GOVERNED:

Cornerstone Baptist Church in Nicholasville, Kentucky, is led by a group of men that the New Testament calls "Elders".

What is an Elder?

An Elder is a person of noble character who fits the Biblical qualifications listed in 1 Tim 3:1-7, Titus 1:6ff.

An Elder offers his time, talents, abilities and spiritual gifts for the benefit of the local body—the church. He watches over the church as a shepherd does his flocks. He is dedicated to the ministry of prayer and the Word of God.

How do the Elders lead?

The Elders have the God-given responsibility to oversee the church. They lead by example and by being servants. In other words, their public ministry to the church flows from their private lives and their personal relationships with Jesus Christ. The Elders make decisions in a spirit of unanimity. This means that decisions will be made after the Elders have become of one mind. This is a process involving prayer and careful searching of God’s Word and weighing their own motives.

The Elders should tenderly shepherd the flock of God in a spirit of love and servant hood, always being on guard for the congregation and for themselves. The Elders should stick closely to and actively teach the Word of God, exhorting the congregation in sound Biblical doctrine and correcting those who contradict or do not understand it.

In carrying out the administrative oversight of the church, the Council of Elders has the responsibility and authority to enter into any agreements on behalf of the church.
